Brian Smith

Director of communications

Brian joined ORION EMS in December 2019 as the Director of Communications. In this role, he leads the organization’s dispatch and intake division, while also liaising between the dispatch agents and field staff.  He is charged with strengthening ORION’s tradition of excellence in every aspect of the company’s operations and fostering an environment of achievement within the dispatch room.

To ORION EMS, Brian brings a decade of communications and public and media relations experience, having previously worked in professional baseball, professional bull riding, concert and special event management, and with an international sport and fitness conglomerate. Through these roles, he has managed teams of 5-40 employees with a strong record of driving them to accomplish aggressive goals and performance standards.

Brian has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a master’s degree in sport management—both from The University of Texas—where he was also a captain and three-time Big XII Conference champion as a member of the Longhorn Swimming and Diving team.  

Outside of ORION, he can most often be found fishing or kayaking at the beach, watching the Texas Rangers, or ghost hunting around the country.  Brian is a minority owner of the Green Bay Packers.
